Apple Custard

Originally posted: December 20, 2015

So far this week has been crazy at work, so many Christmas shoppers and large parties out celebrating that my last few days at work have turned me into a Grinch! It doesn't really feel like Christmas in Toronto anyways, there is no snow on the ground and too many frantic shoppers for anything to feel truly festive.

Hopefully today's Apple Custard tea helps me get into the Christmas spirit. This is one of their teas from the holiday/winter collection. When I sampled this in DAVIDs the other day I wasn't a huge fan but now that I am at home all snuggled up in my bed sampling it with some sugar, I'm in love!

       Apple has always been my

favourite scent and flavour, I don't know exactly what it is, but there is something about apples that is just perfect. They are so crisp and bright it's hard to think the flavour can be improved upon but this tea has an underlying creaminess that adds a whole different taste that is perfect for a cold winter day.

Ingredient wise, this tea is much less of a mish-mash than you would expect, with only apples, golden raisins, coriander, chamomile, natural and artificial vanilla flavouring it is one of their more simple holiday teas.

Right from the first sip it tastes like you have taken a bite out of a freshly baked dessert, the scent smells strongly of custard but does not translate to

the taste, I almost prefer it this way as the scent does add another dimension to the overall flavour. The fruit flavours are slightly muted by the overlying creaminess of the vanilla but this is not a bad thing, the tea does taste just like a dessert and although you can taste the apple flavour, it's just slightly more subtle than I would have hoped (as I said I'm an apple addict.) I would have liked to taste the crispness of the apple a little more but as a sweet herbal tea you just can't go wrong.

If you have a sweet tooth like me and love herbal teas, this is a wonderful option to help you get into the festive mood, if it can help get a Scrooge like me get into the Christmas spirit it is definitely something special.
