India's Original
Because this is a brand from India, I thought I would start with a classic: India's Original Masala Chai. I have never really been known as a fan of chai, usually I prefer my tea fruity rather than spicy, but lately I seem to be enjoying them more than usual.
This chai is a blend of assam black tea, named for
the north-eastern state of India where it is grown, and carefully measured spices like cardamom, cinnamon, long pepper, black pepper and ginger. There is a reason why traditional favourites are so well loved and this chai may have finally changed my mind about spicy teas.
Without sugar it manages
to strike a remarkable balance between spiciness, smoothness and subtlety. You can easily taste the chai spices but more surprisingly you can also taste the black tea, making the overall flavour smooth and comforting without leaving an unpleasant aftertaste in the mouth.
